NEW DELHI, Jan 10 -- Shiv Shanker Prasad Chowrasia enjoyed a momentous day in the sun when he made a tremendous charge in the final round to win the $2.5 million EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters at the Delhi Golf Club on Sunday.
Nicknamed ''Chipputtsia'' because of his magical short game, the former caddy closed with a flawless 67 for a nine-under-par total to claim the winner''s cheque for $416,660 (approximately Rs 16.5 miilion).
The cheque that almost matched his entire career earnings since he turned pro in 1997 was presented to him by Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit.
NEW DELHI, Feb 9 -- Rafael Jacquelin carded a steady level par round of 72 to take a one-stroke lead going into the final round of the $2.5 million EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters at the Delhi Golf Club on Friday.
The Frenchman mixed an eagle and a birdie with three bogeys to move to six under par. Snapping at his heels were a group of three players.
Overnight leader Damien McGrane of Ireland endured a tough day, surrendering his two-shot advantage by the sixth hole and eventually signing for a 75.
NEW DELHI, Feb 9 - There is no need for the majestic Delhi Golf Club -- this week''s spectacular setting for the EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters -- to laud its own magnificence.
Some of the world''s best golfers, led by Ernie Els, did that for this historic club, which was built by the British in 1931 on land which was the burial ground of the 14th century Lodhi dynasty.
"I have great respect for this club. You have a wonderful golf course – an old fashioned course. You should be proud of it," the world number four said amid cheer from club members who turned out in a large number to attend his clinic held at the driving range.
NEW DELHI, Feb 8 - The gloomy weather mirrored Jyoti Randhawa’s mood and second round at the EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters on Friday.
How fickle golf and form can be was never more evident than Friday, when overnight leader Randhawa could get things little right and ended with one of his worst ever rounds at is home course, the Delhi Golf Club with a five-over 77.
That saw Randhawa drop down the ladder so swiftly that he was barely under par at two-under 142.
NEW DELHI, Feb 8 – Damien McGrane has figured out what it takes to post good numbers on the tough Lodhi course at the Delhi Golf Club.
The unassuming Irishman, playing a steady tee-to-green golf, shot a solid three-under-par 69 for an eight-under-par total of 136 to stay in contention for the top prize in the EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters.
Feeling at home in Irish-like cold and windy conditions here, McGrane mixed five birdies with two bogeys in what he called a very good round. "I have found a formula around the course that seems to be giving me good scores," said the 36-year-old from county Heath.
